Irene Stroud

On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, Irene Stroud, 90, long time resident of Titusville, passed away at home.

Irene was born on Dec 18, 1931 to Elzie and Mertie Gatlin in Florala, Alabama.  After Irene graduated from Florala High School, she married Herbert Mumpower of Appalachia, Virginia and went on to have 3 children, Patricia, David and Debbie. Irene accompanied Herbert throughout his Air Force career, taking the family to many locations worldwide. In 1967, the moved to Titusville, where Herbert began a new career at Kennedy Space Center.

After the death of Herbert, in 1978, Irene married Fred B. Stroud Jr., who was the general manager of McCotter Ford in Titusville for over 40 years.  Fred introduced Irene to the game of golf which became her passion. Fred and Irene played many rounds of golf at Royal Oak and in their second home in Cashiers, NC. They travelled around the U.S. playing golf wherever they stopped.

Irene is survived by her two daughters Patricia Colbary and Debora Kirtley, step-daughter Marsha Peterson, nephew Jerry Gatlin, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. One great-grandchild is Davin, whom she was especially close to. She greatly enjoyed the many hours of playing Uno with him, and occasionally he could beat her, but not too often. Irene had a large extended “family” of friends across the country. Irene will be deeply missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held in January.  The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Irene’s name.
